I just watched “A Crude Awakening; The Oil Crash” yesterday and to tell you the truth it was eye-opening. I knew that the world was in trouble, but the trouble isn’t 50-100 years in the future, it’s now. I don’t think that the dependancy of getting oil from foreign countries is our problem, it’s oil all together. Slowly we will be running out of oil, not just in the U.S. but in the entire world. There are 750,000,000 cars on the roads in the world today, and all of them release 19 pounds of CO2 for every gallon of gasoline they burn. With those 750 million cars only about 10-15 million are hybrids.
The United States uses 25% of the oil produced in the world yearly. If you think about it there are 80 million barrels of oil produced each day throughout the world, and the United States uses 20 million of those barrels.
”The issue is not one of ‘running out’ so much as it is not having enough to keep our economy running.” -Matt Savinar of lifeaftertheoilcrash.net
With the stockpile of oil growing smaller the demand for oil rises, from all parts of the globe. 20-30 years ago there were many countries that didn’t depend on oil, countries in Africa mostly; where everything was done by labor or animal labor, but now there may be only one or two countries that don’t depend on oil. The dependancy on oil will only grow unless the governments of all the countries do something about it.
Oil started the American Dream, and now it is killing it.
